I have ideas. Dunno if they're good ideas, but at least worth the musing.
What if I were to commit to illustrating the panels I wanted to for the original book, or at least character images? Would I be able to sell them on a t-shirt?
I went looking at quotes for a simple advertisement-style shirt with my first book's cover image and a message on the back. One printer was limited in scope, but the price was affordable if I did all the middleman crap. Another who'd take that role could print the design on several colors of shirts (not all of them complimentary to the printing) at $36 + S&H per 2XL shirt. Not a good price unless you're at a concert for a band you REALLY have to have the shirt for.
Now I'm plagued with two notions:
1. For a t-shirt at $36 (+/-), available in several colors, wouldn't the graphic HAVE to be stellar?
2. If I went the cheaper route, I'd have to still charge the $10 extra for S&H myself to make certain the shirts ship to me properly and then to my customers the same.
3. Would anyone BUY a shirt with my graphics on it in the first place?
No, it shouldn't be this hard. Not with our digital age so readily at arms to make it easier. I wish I knew who to go to for the best price and who'll play middle man for me. I'd only have to direct people to the site to purchase by, just like the POD's I sell books through.
Either that, or buy the screenprinting gear myself and a t-shirt cannon powered by fission to reach trajectories far across the U.S., Canada, and outer-lying solar systems.
Meh.
